Disaster Training Classes

The American Red Cross offers over 50 disaster training courses ranging in subjects such as shelter operations to managing spontaneous volunteers. However, while the class list is comprehensive, it can be a little overwhelming. That's why the St. Joseph County Chapter has narrowed down the list of required disaster courses to just eight (other courses will be offered but are not required). Disaster volunteers have one year to complete all of the required courses. They are:

  1. CPR (renewed every two years)
  2. First Aid (renewed every two years)
  3. Disaster Services: An Overview
  4. Shelter Operations
  5. Shelter Simulations
  6. Client Casework
  7. Disaster Assessment
  8. Psychological First Aid

Classes are held periodically. If you have any questions about these courses or would like a course schedule, a Red Cross staff person would be happy to talk to you. Just call or e-mail Allison Hoke at hoke@stjoe-redcross.org.
