Become an American Red Cross Instructor
and Help Build a Safer Community
Each year, the American Red Cross teaches lifesaving skills to nearly 12 million people but we don't do it alone. It's only possible with the help of dedicated people like you. Your committment and willingness to devote a little of your time helps us make the world a safer place.
American Red Cross volunteer instructors are members of a select group of trained individuals who emobdy the standards and idelas of the Red Cross. As a volunteer, you will have the opportunity to use your lifesaving skills and experience to give back to the community and make a difference in the lives of others.
Depending on your interests, you can be trained to become an instructor in one or more areas:
- First Aid, CPR/AED for the Lay Responder
- CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer
- Water Safety
- Lifeguarding
- Emergency Response
- Babysitting
- HIV/AIDS
All American Red Cross Instructors must:

Be at least 17 years of age,

Pass a Pre-Course session (to verify basic skills in subject area) and

Complete the Fundamentals of Instructor Training (FIT) course
The length and cost of the Instructor Training Course vary depending on the subject area. The course usually includes the Pre-Course and Fundamentals of Instructor Training.
